The Piedmont Forestry Dove Field is a 20-acre field located north of Salem, near the junction of Hwy 130 and Hwy 11. (Follow signs to the field.) It is owned by the S.C. Forestry Commission.
Hunters utilizing this field must have a valid hunting license, wildlife management area permit and migratory bird permit. Game species other than doves cannot be hunted on this property.
The field is only open for the first and second season and on Saturday afternoons only. Signs posted at the entrance to the field provide specific dates the field is open each year. Hunters cannot enter the field until 12:00 noon and the field closes at 6:00 p.m. during the first segment of the season. Hunters are limited to 50 shells per hunt.
The field is planted by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources each year in agricultural crops such as wheat, browntop millet, sunflowers, sorghum and corn that provide food for doves and other wildlife and cover for hunters. Each year, prior to opening day, a portion of the crops is bush hogged or burned and strips are disked throughout the field to provide some bare ground.
Hunters must park at the designated parking area. Shotguns with magazines must be plugged so they hold no more than two (2) shells in the magazine. Hunters are cautioned to avoid shooting low birds and to hunt safely. Hunters are required to carry out all their trash including spent shell hulls. All other federal, state and wildlife management area regulations apply.
