The Pickens County Dove Field is a 40-acre field located south of Pickens near the SCDOT work center and adjacent to the Pickens Rifle Range. It is owned by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
Hunters utilizing this field must have a valid hunting license, wildlife management area permit and migratory bird permit. Game species other than doves cannot be hunted on this property.
The field is only open for the first, second and third season and on Saturday afternoons only. Signs are posted at the entrance to the field providing specific dates the field is open each year. Hunters cannot enter the field until 12:00 noon and the field closes at 6:00 pm during the first segment of the season. Hunters are limited to 50 shells per hunt.
The field is planted by DNR each year in agricultural crops such as wheat, browntop millet, sunflowers, sorghum and corn that provide food for doves and other wildlife and cover for hunters. Each year, prior to opening day, a portion of the crops is bushhogged or burned and strips are disked throughout the field to provide some bare ground.
Hunters must also park at the designated parking area. Shotguns with magazines must be plugged so they hold no more than two (2) shells in the magazine. Hunters are cautioned to avoid shooting low birds and to hunt safely. Hunters are also required to carry out all their trash including spent shell hulls. All other federal, state and WMA regulations apply.
The Pickens County range is located at this site and is open Tuesday - Saturday: 9am - 5pm or as posted. The range consists of a 100 yd rifle range, shotgun range and an archery range. To confirm hours of operation call (864) 855-5747.
