This dove field resides within Sumter National Forest - Andrew Pickens Ranger District
The Long Creek Public Dove Field is a 20-acre field, located north of Long Creek on Orchard Rd. It is owned by the United States Forest Service (USFS).
Hunters utilizing this field must have a valid hunting license, wildlife management area permit and migratory bird permit. Other game species may be hunted on this dove field when closed. In order to hunt adults must have at least 1 or 2 youth age 17 or younger. Disability hunters must contact the U.S. Forest Service ? Andrew Pickens Ranger Station at 864-638-9568 for permit requirements.
The first three Saturdays of Dove season are reserved for adult/youth and disability drawing dove hunts. The number there is (864) 654-1671 ext.16. Otherwise the field will open September 26th, on Saturday afternoons only during 1st.dove season and only the 1st Saturday of the Second season. The field is closed the remainder of the 2nd season and all of the 3rd season. Signs are posted at the entrance to the field providing specific dates the field is open each year. Hunters cannot enter the field until 12:00 noon and the field closes at 6:00 pm during the first segment of the season. Hunters are limited to 50 shells per hunt.
The field is planted by DNR each year in agricultural crops such as wheat, browntop millet, sunflowers, sorghum and corn that provide food for doves and other wildlife and cover for hunters. Each year, prior to opening day, a portion of the crops is bushhogged or burned and strips are disked throughout the field to provide some bare ground.
Hunters must also park at the designated parking area. Shotguns with magazines must be plugged so they hold no more than two (2) shells in the magazine. Hunters are cautioned to avoid shooting low birds and to hunt safely. Hunters are also required to carry out all their trash including spent shell hulls. All other federal, state and WMA regulations apply.
