The Campbell's Crossroads (CC) WMA was acquired in 1986 as part of a land swap between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge and the South Carolina Wildlife and Marine Resources Department, now the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
The CC tract consists of approximately 359 acres and was formed from Carolina Sandhills Refuge tracts 312-b (334 acres) and approximately 25 acres of the western portion of Refuge tract 366-c. To access Campbell's Crossroads WMA, travel SC145 southwest from the town of Chesterfield for 8 miles. Turn left onto SC109 and proceed 0.4 miles. Turn right into the parking area.
This tract is comprised mostly of planted and natural longleaf and loblolly pine and about 25% in hardwood stands of blackgum, maple, yellow poplar, red oak, water oak and hickory. Portions of the pine stands are controlled burned annually, and about 7 acres of wildlife openings are planted annually in small grains and chufa. White-tailed deer, wild turkey, and small game species are present and hunting is allowed within Game Zone 4 regulations. Access is walk-in only.
