Hunts are conducted on scheduled dates during the waterfowl season by drawing.
This waterfowl area is located within Santee Delta Wildlife Management Area and is a Category I waterfowl area.
Consisting of 1,721 acres of wetlands (1,135 acres managed), the tract is characterized as a waterfowl management area, but provides management capabilities for a wide variety of game, non-game and fishery resources. Most of the area was purchased with and current operations are funded by State and Federal monies through Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration. Specific management objective at Santee-Delta WMA include: providing the highest quality wetland habitat possible to meet the wintering needs of migratory and local waterfowl as well as production habitat for a variety of other wetland dependent game, non-game, and endangered species; providing high quality recreational public hunting opportunities; providing a showcase area for education and demonstration of state-of-the-art wildlife management principles and techniques; providing research facilities for advancement of waterfowl and wetlands management and ecology; and to provide accessible interpretive natural areas for appreciative resource use and nature study.
The managed wetlands are divided into the East and West. The East contains 3 managed wetlands and the West 1. The 4 units are managed as traditional moist soil units targeting the production of panic grasses and smart weeds.
The management area is hunted weekly during the second split of the season.
